The UK Alliance of Wedding Planners was founded for one purpose: to promote professionalism in wedding planning. The company believes that by investing in training and development and helping to grow the wedding planning industry in a professional manner we can together provide an outstanding and unparalleled service for today's brides and grooms.
The UKAWP is owned and run by two like-minded wedding planners who are passionate about the industry. Each run a small but successful wedding planning business of their own. Each of the directors has 11 years+ experience running UK-based wedding planning businesses.
They both bring a different approach to weddings, have complementary experiences and operate in different areas, but remain committed to promoting professionalism and good and honest business practice in this field. They firmly believe that being operational wedding planners and knowing the 'day-to-day' of the job enables them to successfully run the Alliance, train new potential planners and nurture and support members.s
Bernadette & Sandy
History of the UKAWP
Bernadette Chapman launched the UKAWP as a partnership organisation recognising a need for an organisation for professional wedding planners in the UK. Theirs was the first UK written wedding planning course to be available and the only UK membership organisation for wedding planners.
The UKAWP was re-launched as the UKAWP Ltd alongside Kelly Chandler and Britt Armstrong-Gash from The Bespoke Wedding Company. Together they ensured the UKAWP was portraying the professional image it deserved with new branding and marketing.
2007 - 2012
Britt decided to leave the wedding industry to pursue other career interests and as such resigned from the UKAWP. Sandy Moretta from Tern Events came on board as the third director.
Kelly Chandler resigns as director to spend more time with her young family and her wedding planning business, The Bespoke Wedding Company. Bernadette and Sandy continue to run the UKAWP together.
many requests from wedding industry suppliers to become more involved in the Alliance, the Directors launch a 2 year pilot scheme offering Wedding Supplier Membership to professional suppliers who wish to work closely with wedding planners.
As membership levels and our overall activities grew the Directors appointed 5 Regional Ambassadors from amongst their experienced members around the UK. These Ambassadors support the Directors in membership, training and development in their areas.
