UKAWP member’s new service for ultra fashion-conscious brides

Thursday, December 8th, 2011

We at UKAWP are always stressing how different our member wedding planners are and how their often diverse  talents come to the fore in how they run and grow their wedding planning businesses. Today’s post  is an example of that from boutique consultancy Cranberry Blue Weddings who have recently launched ‘The Fashion Indulgence’.  Director and former fashion buyer Melanie Helen clearly has the interest, talents and contacts to design a very fashion-led service and here is what this new service is all about. It looks fantastic.

They have teamed up with some of the industry’s most reputable brands to offer a unique, luxury service with a fashion twist. Directed by founder and former fashion buyer Melanie Helen, you and your girlfriends can indulge yourselves for a whole weekend with a personal shopping experience, champagne afternoon tea, professional hair & make-up styling and a photo shoot with some of the top names in the industry.

The experience would begin with a personal shopping trip at either Selfridges or Harvey Nichols, followed by:

  • - A sumptuous champagne afternoon tea
  • - An overnight stay in a boutique hotel
  • - Hair styling by leading bridal hair company The Hepburn Collection
  • - State of the art airbrush makeup, by celebrity makeup artist Mariam Jensen or by the renowned JemmaKidd Professional Team
  • - A location photo shoot with leading photographers Eye Imagine
  • - A private car to the hotel and the photo shoot location
  • - A selection of mounted prints

Melanie would work with you beforehand to discuss different looks and possibilities for the photo shoot, before creating a design concept that includes everything from clothing, accessories, locations and hair and make-up ideas.  It could be for a 1950s theme for example or based around the current fashion trends.

This is perfect for a sophisticated hen party, a gift to the groom or an original take on engagement photos; alternatively it would be a fabulous birthday treat.

Melanie, who has worked for the elite of the fashion world from renowned French designer Roland Mouretto the cream of the high street chains such as Oasis and Arcadia, personally attends to the brides every step of the way. Aided by her in-depth knowledge of the fashion and buying world, Melanie keeps a close eye on the latest trends in the fashion and wedding industry and understands how they can be adapted to suit individuals.

Prices are based on a minimum of 4 people and are from £675 each for the whole weekend.

Exclusive Yacht Weddings

Manager Sharron Masoura says” We specialize in weddings being unique and give the couples what they want, with all these years of experience we have now decided that we need to offer our services into Mykonos and the Greek islands, demand is there for something a little different from the “ordinary” wedding.”

We make sure that our wedding specialists are fully trained, have experience in our fields and can offer what people want.  We are proud to say that nothing is too much trouble for our team, we always will go that extra mile to make sure our couples have the best.

Our team are also based throughout the UK and Scotland too!  We have wedding specialists covering different areas and are always ready to come to you!!

Good luck Sharron and team for an equally successful 2012.

You can’t manage it all yourself

Friday, January 21st, 2011

One of the main areas the UKAWP is known for is our training courses, one of the benefits we try and pass onto our students is shadowing experience with one of our members or in some cases the director.

Having a student assist you on a wedding day can be beneficial and rewarding for you both. The student can help you at the wedding with the time consuming tasks like: folding napkins, laying place cards, positioning button holes at the church, assisting guests find their tables, hand round guest books. The student shouldn’t however be left alone so if you need a second planner to be at the church whilst you are at the reception venue then consider hiring another member of the UKAWP instead as a freelancer. *We have ½ day and full day rates; if you need information on these rates please contact sandy@ukawp.com.

I think in the early days there is a tendency to feel you must do everything yourself on a wedding day but as you get more experienced you realise this isn’t possible. Frequently you are called away from laying tables by the caterer who wants to run through the dietary options with you or the best man wants to check his speech - in essence you can quickly run out of time and become stressed thinking you wont finish everything in time.

  • please note this is for UKAWP members hiring another member to assist at one of their weddings.

UKAWP’s First Destination Member

Monday, October 4th, 2010

We recently announced the launch of our newest category of membership: Destination Member.

The UKAWP Directors have always taken the view that the Alliance is UK focussed in terms of our training programmes, seminars and events.

However, with so many UK brides looking to marry abroad, we realised there was a gap in our membership base, namely that of reputable wedding planners who plan weddings abroad for UK brides.

We are therefore now particularly pleased to introduce you to our first Destination Member, Sharron Masoura of Exclusive Yacht Weddings in Cyprus.

sharron-headshot1

Sharron explains ‘I am a fully qualified accountant by profession and moved over to Cyprus after meeting my husband who is Cypriot some 16 years ago.

My personal attributes are organising and planning things through, no matter what the job is.’

Sharron and team specialise in weddings on board luxury yachts, however they also offer all manner of other venues on the beautiful island of Cyprus.

We look forward to getting to know Sharron better and to welcoming more Destination Members in the near future.

The Benefits of Destination Membership

Last in our current series covering our different membership types comes our most recent addition - Destination Membership. This post aims to provide an overview of the entry criteria and benefits of Destination Membership. Should you be interested in applying to the UKAWP or have any queries, please contact us at membership@ukawp.com .

Destination Membership

For years we have allowed only UK based planners to apply for membership of the UKAWP, indeed hanging our hats on the fact that our training and mentoring schemes are focused on the UK, thus our planners are ideal for British brides. However, with this last point in mind, an increasing number of UK brides contact us looking for destination weddings and wanting to know where best to find reputable local foreign planners.

We therefore decided to open Destination Membership to a number of experienced, reputable non UK planners, as follows….

This type of membership is for those planners who have been running their companies and working with clients for some time.

Application criteria:

  • Companies must only plan weddings outside the UK.
  • Companies must have been trading for at least 12 months at point of application.
  • Companies must submit details of two past clients that the Alliance can contact to gather references, one of which must be for full wedding co-ordination from venue search through to attending on the day. Postal addresses, not just e-mail addresses, must be provided.
  • Companies must provide one reference from a supplier or venue.
  • Companies must supply proof of public liability insurance.
  • Membership fee is £145 incl. VAT for 12 months.
  • To download an application form please do so here…

Benefits:

  • Annual certificate of membership of the UKAWP to be shown to potential clients.
  • Use of ‘Destination Member’ logo of the UKAWP on website, advertising and all marketing materials.
  • Ability to refer potential clients to the UKAWP code of ethics and application process to gain enhanced client confidence.

The Benefits of Associate Membership continued..

Thursday, June 3rd, 2010

Following my post about what Associate Membership of the UKAWP is all about, I am delighted to share with you the thoughts of one of our relatively recent members, Isobel Lamplough of Isobel Weddings, whose business is going from strength to strength….

‘Being an associate member of the UKAWP has huge benefits - all my clients are very keen to hear about our training, the code of ethics that we abide by and feel reassured that we are supported by a professional body. In terms of personal benefits - I have found the media contacts invaluable and also the access to a network of like minded individuals.’

Many thanks Isobel for your thoughts.
