Our Story

2004

Recognising a huge need for such a group, Bernadette Chapman launched the UKAWP as a partnership organisation for professional wedding planners in the UK. Theirs was the country’ s first written wedding planning course and only membership organisation for wedding planners.

2006

The UKAWP was re-launched as the UKAWP Ltd. alongside Kelly Chandler and Britt Armstrong-Gash from The Bespoke Wedding Company, who together ensured a suitably professional image with new branding and marketing.

2007 - 2012

Pursuing career interests outside the wedding industry, Britt resigned from the UKAWP and Sandy Moretta from ternevents joined as the third director.

Early 2013

Kelly Chandler stepped down to devote more time to her young family and The Bespoke Wedding Company, with Sandy and Bernadette remaining as sole directors.

Late 2013

In response to many requests from professional wedding industry suppliers, a two-year pilot scheme was launched, offering wedding supplier membership to those wishing to work closely with professional wedding planners.

2014

As membership and activities grew, the directors appointed five regional ambassadors from amongst experienced, UK-wide members, each providing local support in membership, training and development. They now also have additional ambassadors covering wedding supplier partners and special projects.

2016

A fresh rebranding marked the UKAWP’ s ten years of service and exciting vision for future growth.

Meet the Founders

From planning the perfect wedding to teaching others how to do the same, whether for brides and grooms or planners and suppliers, the dynamic duo behind the UKAWP excels at bringing people together.

Sandy Moretta launched her first wedding and event planning business in 2003, following a successful twelve-year career in international payment systems marketing that provided an excellent background in project management and creative thinking. She rebranded the business Ternevents in 2008, planning stylish celebrations throughout London and the South East, followed, most recently, by equally stunning events and destination weddings in Jersey.

Sandy’s outstanding organisation skills, creativity and attention to detail make her highly respected within the industry, and she contributes regularly to the press and as a guest expert on TV and radio. In 2010, she led her team to victory in the first series of Wedding TV’s ‘Three Grand Weddings’ and has been on the judging panel for the Wedding Industry Awards since 2012.

Bernadette Chapman has been creating amazing events since the launch of her company, Dream Occasions, in 2002. Started after her decade-long corporate career in London spanning tourism, TV production and a role as a top City Executive Assistant to CNBC VPs, the Essex-based company serves East Anglia and has become a recognised leader in marquee functions. Hosting workshops and webinars on the subject, Bernadette has also acted as a Wedding Industry Awards marquee judge.

She loves sharing her extensive knowledge and passion for the industry with other planners and, recognising a need for excellence in an unregulated industry, co-founded the UKAWP in 2004. She is the co-author of “Wedding Planning for Dummies” (2014), a sought-after speaker on TV and radio, and featured expert in numerous national publications.
