Tell us about your journey into weddings?

I started my career as a solicitor in the public sector before moving into external and corporate affairs where I gained my event planning and organisational experience organising corporate and special events.

I guess I “caught the bug” for organising events when I secured the role of Head of External Affairs for the Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council. In this role I was responsible for the planning and co-ordination of ministerial, royal and other special visits to Nottingham. I stayed in that role for a number of years before being appointed  Director of Corporate and External Affairs for a large Further Education College in Nottingham, where my responsibilities included PR, communications and marketing.

I really enjoyed organising special occasion events over the years but I think the one which helped me to realise that it was time to put my passion, organisation (and list making!) skills into a business was my brother and sister in law’s wedding on the beautiful island of Barbados. My initial curiosity and interest in the detail of their plans turned into the need to quite literally roll up my sleeves and assist with the on the day co-ordination to ensure their dream wedding ran smoothly and in accordance with their plans. I loved every minute of it!

Having trained with the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners (UKAWP) I launched Benessamy Wedding & Event Planning in 2011, was appointed as a Regional Ambassador for the UKAWP and am now an Elite Member.

Describe your favourite wedding location (beach / city / country)

I have SO many favourites but I would sum them up as beautiful historic houses, luxurious marquees or a stunning private villa with breathtaking views.

Ultimate wedding theme you’d love to be a part of

I would love to work on a luxurious tropical wedding client brief  where we bring together rich greens of the tropical rainforest and opulent lush florals and textures.   

What 3 words would clients use to describe you?

Calm, reassuring and friendly

How do you unwind?

I absolutely love going for walks along the river near where I live, usually with my headphones on listening to music (I can’t imagine life without music to be honest!). As well as being a great way to relax and unwind, it also helps me to get a regular burst of fresh air.

Best piece of business advice given?

To develop your own style. Although it’s positive to look around for inspiration and ideas, it’s important to focus on your goals and aspirations for YOUR business and not be distracted or disheartened by what others appear to be doing.
