Member Focus – Ashlyn Events
We are delighted to introduce you to Marianne from Ashlyn Events based in Nottingham one of our wedding planner members.
How did it all start?
My introduction to weddings was at a very early age. As a young teenager I attended numerous weddings with my Grandfather, a professional photographer and eventually I was able to get my hands on a camera and act as assistant. Sitting in the church amongst the excited chatter of the guests, grew the part of me that wanted a deeper involvement in this celebration of people’s lives.
Do you have a favourite venue?
Of all the stunning venues the Midlands has to offer, Newstead Abbey is my stand out favourite. It offers history, romance, charm and a backdrop for spectacular wedding photos. Peacocks roam the grounds and the utter perfection of the French gardens creates a truly magical setting for weddings.
How would clients describe you?
Clients often mention my understanding and empathy, it really comes to the fore when I am able to bring together different needs and take into account the feelings of all involved.
Wedding planners or suppliers you particularly admire?
I’m a great fan of Australian wedding planners. They seem to have their finger on the pulse of the wedding industry and are true trendsetters. They exude so much enthusiasm and energy, probably from all that lovely weather, that you can’t help but admire them.
How do you unwind?
I’m lucky enough to live on the Nottinghamshire/Derbyshire boarder, and so can frequently be found exploring the magical countryside of Derbyshire. The combination of stunning views, and great pubs to lunch in, are part of my relaxation. For a quick stress busting session though, I go and sing and shout my support for the Nottingham Panthers at the Ice Arena in my hometown.
What trends are you seeing for 2019/20?
Looking forward to the 2019 wedding season it seems that less is more with couples planning more intimate weddings. From blank canvas venues, such as marquees which can be personalised reflecting their love and personality, to the creative menus presented for their carefully chosen guests, couples are seeking more intimately shared celebrations.
What is your signature dish?
I don’t even have to think about this, Pizza. For breakfast, lunch and dinner. And for any snacking in between.
Whose celebrity wedding (dead or alive) would you love work on?
We all know where Ross and Rachel’s story ended in Friends. But if I could take the story further, I would absolutely without a doubt love to help them to create their wedding! After all, we all wanted to see that happily ever after!
What is your vice?
I make no excuses for this one; every so often, I switch off my phone, lock the doors to the outside world and…… stay in my pyjamas all day, binge watching rom-coms on Netflix. On a cold winters day there is nothing better than snuggling up with a big feather duvet, my comfiest pillows and a lot of snacks! On these days there is only one way to go… Bridget Jones…. all three films… for the hundredth time.
