Member Focus – Fiona Kelly Photography

Member Focus - Fiona Kelly

It is my pleasure to introduce you to Fiona Kelly Photography, one of our photographer members based in London. Tell us about yourself Fiona…

How did it all start?

I started doing wedding photography after getting married myself. We got married in Las Vegas (it was totally planned!) and part of our package included a photographer to take photos during the ceremony. One of my best friends, who came with us, took ones of the getting ready time, travelling in the car and after the ceremony during drinks and dinner. When we looked at the photos I was happy enough with the ones of the ceremony, they were what we expected. But the ones my friend had taken were just so full of life and captured so much more than just the events. It was a real eye opener and I loved the idea of being able to do photos like this for a whole wedding. It wasn’t long after that I photographed my first wedding and that was it….I was totally hooked! I had been working as a Graphic Design and Art Director for a number of years, so the sidewise step into photography wasn’t too much of a leap.

I loved being able to tell the stories that happen during the day. Watching people so you can capture the interactions and little moments. Creating a record of all the details that are carefully chosen and designed. Capturing beautiful, natural photos of the couple that they will treasure. I enjoy the whole process, from the initial planning and wedding chat, to the excitement of the day, through to working on the images and making them look even more special.

Do you have a favourite venue?

Its too hard to choose one. I have worked at so many over the years and have enjoyed them for different reasons. A few that I particularly loved working at are Larmer Tree Gardens, Queens House, Horniman Museum and Nonsuch Mansion.

How would clients describe you?

The comments I get back most often from my clients is how friendly, professional, supportive and easy going I am. I go the extra mile to make sure I can offer the best experience and service. I am there when needed and unobtrusive when not.  Letting them say the words is probably easier than me trying to them!

Edith & Freddie “It was an absolute joy to have Fee as our wedding photographer.  From the first meeting we knew we had to book her. Her style is natural with a touch of fresh, stylish and clean feel. She was extremely professional and reliable throughout the whole process which made our wedding planning a lot easier. She listened carefully to what we wanted and delivered exactly what we wanted – and more! One year on we still love looking through our pictures which bring a smile to our faces. We cannot recommend her more if you are looking for a wedding photographer. Thank you again for capturing these precious moments and emotions of our special day!”

Nadia & Chris “Fiona photographed our wedding. From the first email I knew that she was the one to photograph our special day, and we were so happy we found her! Besides being very professional, she was really friendly and just down to earth and easy to get on with, which made photographing two people who hate having their photographs taken actually turn out great. As a photographer myself it was a big must for me to have the photos right, so if you’re looking for someone to capture your day and all the special moments that bring life and soul to your wedding (or any event!) then Fiona is your lady. Really couldn’t recommend her highly enough.”

Amena & Iman “You captured the feel of our special day so beautifully, we honestly couldn’t be happier with our wedding photos. You went out of your way to understand the many different ceremonies and traditions we had weaved into the schedule of the day – so thank you! And thank you so much for being so amazing and making us able to re-live each moment so easily every time we look over them”.

Wedding planners or suppliers you particularly admire?

That is as hard a task as choosing favourite venues! I have worked with so many amazing people it’s so difficult to just name a few!

In terms of wedding planners, I really enjoy the experience of working with Andri Benson, Elisabetta Cirulli and Revelry Events. Their attention to detail and creativity is amazing, as well as being lovely people to work with.

For other wedding suppliers, I am a huge fan of Blue Sky Flowers and Bloomologie, who always blow me away with their floral creations and style.

How do you unwind?

I’m a bit of a workaholic but am trying to have a better work/life balance. I have an 8 year old, a cat and we have just got a puppy. When I’m not working my life is pretty busy with family time. I love to spend time with my friends, watch films, read and go out for walks (when the weather plays ball!). I am a fan of pilates and like to exercise to keep fit and clear my head.

What trends are you seeing for 2019/20?

I haven’t started on my 2019 weddings and only now catching up with my couples. At  the moment haven’t seen many plans so not sure how things are going to pan out. I think this year might see lots more personality, personal details and breaking with traditions a little more (or adapting them to be more unique to the couples)

What is your signature dish?

I have a couple. Bolognaise and Chilli are my go to dishes. I also make a very good lentil & bacon soup.

 What is your vice?

Cheese….there isn’t a cheese I don’t like. Not bad for you as such but I could easily eat way too much!
