Member Focus – Katrina Otter Weddings & Events

Today we are very pleased to introduce you all to Katrina, who runs Katrina Otter Weddings & Events.

Katrina OtterOver to you Katrina….

How did it all start?

After leaving University I worked for an events company in London which meant that family and friends would regularly ask me for advice and assistance organising their wedding or party.  This started out with a simple supplier recommendation or request for help with a wedding schedule and over time word of mouth and recommendations resulted in me becoming more hands-on to the point where I was eventually planning entire weddings and parties whilst still working in events.  When I met my now husband and moved out of London I decided it was time for a career change…and it’s safe to say I’ve never looked back.

Do you have a favourite venue?

Hengrave Hall is an exquisitely beautiful, captivating, elegant and enchanting venue.  Gleneagles also has to be one of my favourite venues due to the memories it holds for me…I lived in the grounds of the hotel for just 2 months whilst preparing for my first ever event.

 How would clients describe you?

Approachable, honest, supportive and a perfectionist!

What planner(s) do you admire?

A tough question to answer but it has to be Sarah Haywood.  I have met her at several conferences and love her approach and attitude to planning weddings.  I am also excited to be attending her Luxury Wedding Workshop in March.

How do you unwind?

Going for an evening run followed by a night on the sofa with a glass of white wine, galaxy bar and a boxset TV series.

What themes are you working on?

The two most consistent themes are ‘garden / woodland’ style outdoor weddings and classically elegant weddings.

What trends are you seeing?

Most trends that I see in the UK stem from last years weddings on US blogs like Style Me Pretty and Elizabeth Anne Designs.  The stand-out trends that I’m currently seeing are art deco inspired and glamorous weddings, couples increasingly breaking with tradition (especially first looks / reveals), detailed defined weddings and mismatched bridesmaid dresses.

Signature dish

Apple and blackberry crumble, although I should never be allowed to serve it as I have a habit of taking all the topping!

Celebrity dead or alive you’d love to design wedding for

I’d loved to have designed Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively’s wedding – a low key, perfectly in sync and stylish couple.

What is your vice?

Banoffee pie ice cream…I love it that much I even named my first dog Boffee!
