How did it all start?
Planning events has been a part of my life for a long time! My mum plans charity events and for as long as I can remember I have always loved helping her put it all together, going to see different venues, helping her with guest lists and then setting up on the event days. After college I then got a job at a local wedding venue and interned with some wedding planners, and this is where I caught the wedding bug! I loved the personal touches, emotional aspect and family feel of being at weddings and knew my previous event knowledge would help me in my dream of becoming a wedding planner. I have now been in the industry 7 years and have worked on hundreds of weddings through working at venues, with stylists and planners. I then took the leap of starting my own company 1 year ago and One Oake was born!
Do you have a favourite venue?
I am lucky enough to live in an area where there are lots of wedding venues from country estates and stately homes to fields and gardens for tipis and marquees. I would say my favourite type of venue would be somewhere that can be made personal for the couple, not a complete blank canvas but somewhere that allows their wedding to stand out and look different to all the others that have taken place there. I have a bucket list of venues that I would love the chance to work at as I feel that they would allow the personality of the couple to shine through. This list includes the beautiful venues Aynhoe Park and Hedsor House and quirky venues such as Trinity Buoy Wharf.
How would clients describe you?
I think my clients would describe me a personal, supportive and fun. I like to work closely with my couples and look at them more as friends then clients. I like to take the time to get to know them and enjoy the planning process with the couple. In some cases you can be working with clients for a couple of years so by the time the wedding comes it’s like being with a friend on their special day.
Wedding planners or suppliers you particularly admire?
There are many planners and suppliers in this industry that I look up to and are an inspiration to me. I particularly admire those who are trying to do something different in the industry and create their own niche!
How do you unwind?
I love nothing more than being on the sofa at home with a good book or bingeing on a Netflix series. However, I do love to travel and really enjoy discovering new destinations. My favourite destination to date is Australia, it’s the only place in the world I have been and thought ‘yeah I could live here!’
What is your signature dish?
I am lover of Italian food so it would probably be either one of my ‘famous’ upside down pizza pies or a classic spaghetti with rocket, parmesan and pancetta. Perfect with an Aperol Spritz!
Whose celebrity wedding (dead or alive) would you love work on?
Chrissy Tegan and John Legend –They are both so fun and I think with Chrissy’s love of food and John Legends music it would have been the most amazing wedding!
What is your vice?
Gin & tonic with a cucumber slice and a really good cheese board!
