Member Focus – Perfect Peony

Today we are delighted to introduce new Associate Member Caroline of Perfect Peony. Over to you Caroline…
How did it all start?
After many years working as a Merchandiser in the fashion industry I was ready for my career to take a new direction – one which utilises my experience in planning, organising and financial management, and also has a creative dimension that focuses on people.
I embarked on a course to qualify as a professional wedding planner and subsequently took up a role as a wedding coordinator at a local boutique hotel. My ultimate dream was to manage my own business, which led me to establish Perfect Peony and, as they say, the rest is history…
Do you have a favourite venue?
There are so many fabulous venues right here on our doorstep and across the country it’s hard to pin down a favourite! From rustic barns to elaborate country houses they all have their own unique features, which make them special. I do especially like a venue where you have total exclusivity.
How would clients describe you?
Friendly, organised, reliable with a positive attitude and calm nature – a stress reliever!
Wedding planner/s you admire?
I have a great deal of admiration for many planners within the industry, but from an aspirational standpoint I would say Mark Niemierko – his originality, creativity & execution is amazing.
I also have a huge amount of respect for Sarah Haywood – a pure legend in the wedding world across the globe. Her wealth of knowledge and expertise is extremely admirable.
How do you unwind?
I always enjoy a spot of retail therapy. You can’t beat it, even if it is just window shopping! In summer I love relaxing in the garden with a nice glass of something chilled!
What themes are you working on for 2015/16?
Metallics of all types are increasingly popular, especially copper & rose gold. I am currently working on a contemporary luxe theme encompassing personalised elements.
What trends are you seeing?
There has been an overall move from sticking to tradition and instead a veer towards making the day even more personal by introducing unique touches and building the day around what is important to each individual couple. This has also been reflected in food choices where there is much more creativity in terms of types of food and presentation.
What is your signature dish?
I love Thai and Malaysian food – I would say my signature dish would be Thai massaman curry, but I’m now keen to perfect a Malaysian beef rendang!
Whose celebrity wedding (dead or alive) would you love to design?
A member of the royal family, but with a celebrity status, I would love to have a hand in planning Prince Harry’s wedding. It would need to blend royal protocol with traditional and modern elements and also encompass lots of fun ideas and plenty of entertainment –I’m always up for a challenge!
Is the job as glamorous as you thought?
I was under no illusion that the job would be glamorous! The work schedule may be demanding at times, but I enjoy every minute of it. I find it so rewarding to see all our efforts come to fruition on the day and I do of course so love a happy ending!
What is your vice?
I am a self confessed chocoholic! I love chocolate in all guises, especially with a nice, strong cup of tea!
