Member Focus – S2 Images
Delighted to introduce you to S2 Images ,tell us about yourselves Sonia & Simon ……
How did it all start?
In 2011 we got married, having known each other for only 6 months, as crazy as that sounds. We actually met through photography and had so much in common, it just felt right. One week after we got married we shot a wedding. We absolutely fell in love with everything about working with each other and other couples who were setting off on the same path we have travelled ourselves.
Do you have a favourite venue?
This is a really tough one, as there are just so many beautiful venues out there. We’ve shot at a variety of places, from Hedsor House to the Grand Hyatt in Kuala Lumpur! Our personal favourite venue style is more of a rustic, barn type setting, which usually comes with a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
How would clients describe you?
We thought best to simply share an actual review from one of our groom’s:
“Choosing wedding photographers is such a key part of any wedding day. They need to be professional, patient, friendly, integrate well with the bride, groom and guests and be able to capture the wedding day in the way that the bride and groom want. It’s quite a list that photographers are held to. Sonia and Simon ticked all these boxes and more. The pair of them kept in contact with us from the start which made my wife and I feel at ease. It’s stressful enough in the lead up the wedding (for my wife anyway, I’m actually really laid back) and to have that peace of mind is a massive plus point. Both Sonia and Simon were brilliant on the big day and captured everything perfectly; getting ready in the morning, the verbal abuse I received from my groomsmen after telling them how nervous I was about my speech, signing my life…I mean the ceremony, right through to the first dance and evening antics, staying longer to capture the moments that only happen after people have spent all day at the bar. They even managed to keep my wife happy on the Wedding Day, which in my opinion is already worth hiring them for. They produced an amazing account of the day in photographs and we’ve been able to see so many moments and details that we missed. We couldn’t have asked anything more of them and in fact we didn’t have to. They produced perfect results and our guests absolutely loved them, especially the bridal party! You want wedding photographers to understand your vision of the day and they did that perfectly from start to finish.”

Wedding planners or suppliers you particularly admire?
There are so many people in the industry that we admire. Having worked alongside The Wedding Filmmakers on a few weddings, we have become really good friends. We admire their character, work ethic and love their non-obtrusive style. As a photographer, it’s crucial to work alongside videographers that understand you and compliment your working style. Someone with an uncomplimentary or overbearing part to play can add an additional stress and actually complicate matters. Adam & Rachel are such a pleasure to work with and we have received compliments from wedding guests who presumed we were all one team on the day. It’s important to have a good support network within the industry and someone who you can rely on – they most certainly tick all the boxes for us. As you can probably tell, we highly recommend them.
How do you unwind?
Having your own business, you never truly switch off. I feel the only way you can put your mind to rest is when abroad, as you are limited as to what you have access to. Even then, we are known to be working for short periods whilst on holiday! Beautiful scenes, nature and wildlife are seemingly the most straightforward remedies to ease a busy mind.
What trends are you seeing for 2018/19?
We are finding that couples are having a much more relaxed approach with weddings as time is going on. We absolutely love this as it means clients are actually enjoying the day, instead of it being tense or overburdened with too much pressure to have a ‘perfect’ day. We find that when you are having fun and just taking things as they come, everything turns out perfect.
Floral backdrops and floral chandeliers are becoming more popular; they most certainly make a statement. Personally, I do welcome these details as they can turn any venue into a dream!
What is your signature dish?
Simon has recently taken a liking to baking – lemon drizzle cake in particular. He wanted to perfect it and ended up baking 4 in a week! I sadly have to say, I don’t want him to be making one again anytime soon.
Whose celebrity wedding (dead or alive) would you love work on?
We don’t really get star struck.. In forcing an answer out of Simon, he has said Steve Irwin. We both agreed that it would have been a super fun wedding. We both love animals and we have no doubt they would have played a part in the day. Steve Irwin’s character and zest for life was infectious and incredible, this would have made for fantastic pictures and undoubtedly a life changing experience for us as photographers. May he rest in peace.
What is your vice?
Mutually – chocolate, we both can’t live a day without it! Simon – coffee, he is an addict and loves anything Lavazza he can get his hands on. Sonia – San Pellegrino, the orange one. She never usually craves or looks for a fizzy drink’s, but at the end of a long day shooting a wedding, nothing else quite hits the spot.
