Must I have planned weddings in order to join the UKAWP?

If you are a new wedding planner you might be wondering how you can join the UK Alliance of Wedding Planners. We actually have different levels of membership and the entry requirements depends on which level you are joining as. I suspect one question you have in particular is: ‘I assume I need to have planned weddings before I can join the UKAWP?‘.

Actually, no you don’t.

We have always been committed to being the industry body not only for established planners, but equally for those starting out, or moving from in house wedding or events management to being independent.

So, let’s be clear. If you are embarking on a career as an independent wedding planner,  you can apply to join at our entry level, Associate Member, without having planned a single wedding. However, you need to fulfil one or both of the following:

  1. 1. Completed either one of our courses (Business Practicalities and/ or Step by Step), or another course approved by our Education Director.
  2. 2. Have been in a full time wedding or event management role (references required) for at least 2 years.
  3. 3. Completed 4 month coaching with the UKAWP

For more information about applying for membership, the benefits, the costs or any niggling questions you may have, please visit this page or contact me, Bernadette, UKAWP Owner via bernadette@ukawp.com.
