You are not alone!
OK we know that sounds a bit weird and we’re not talking ghosts here – but in this wonderful industry of ours it’s true in a number of ways…
Wedding Planning can be lonely
We are not trying to put you off in any way, but many planners work from home and, especially early on and perhaps in the off season, the phone may not ring for a few days at a time.
We at the UKAWP believe it is really important to have a network of likeminded individuals who you can pick up the phone to, email or call upon for help, advice and support. We know our wonderful members do just that along with advising each other in our private Facebook group.
You don’t have to do it all yourself
Many a book, coach, friend or mother will tell you that you can have it all, but you cannot do it all. This is so very true.
You may work alone and it may be only you in your business currently, however there are many ways in which you can get help.
How much time do you spend doing domestic chores?
First of all think about your family, if you have one. Are there things your other half, or your children, could be doing which you are currently doing for them? Even youngsters can learn the life skills of making a bed, putting their washing in the basket and taking their plate to the sink. That might save you 20-30 minutes per day depending on the size of your family.
If you spend say 3 hours per week cleaning, 1 gardening and 1 ironing, might those hours be better spent building your business whilst you pay someone professional an hourly rate to do these things?
Think about your basic processes
Have you automated, or at least organised as much as you can weekly or monthly, things such as bill paying, online grocery shopping and menu planning?
What will you focus on versus what could another do better?
Everyone has areas of their business, or skills, which they love and are great at, then others which they worry about or are not so good at.
Look at all the tasks you have to perform as a business owner then decide whether the areas you lack skill in actually require you to become an expert, or whether in fact you would be better paying someone who specialises in that area. This might be in Accounting, Social Media marketing, General Admin (there are some great PA’s and VA’s out there) or a whole host of other things.
In time you may decide to hire an Assistant and later still employ a larger team: even then it need not be full time to begin with.
So, remember, you are not alone. There is lots of help out there from experts, both domestically and in business, who enjoy what they do and can help you, just like you enjoy planning weddings for your clients. To recap play the short film below…
