In September we introduced you to Caper and Berry our catering expert for our Step by Step course.

Today the #SBScontributor I’m going to introduce is Abigail from The Abigail Cake Bloom company, and trust us when we say her cakes are to die for.


How did it all start?

I have always had a love of baking and have a Hospitality background along with being paid to cook once upon a time. Having got to a stage as a top level PA working many many hours for someone else I just decided it was time I did the same but doing something I loved and for myself – which was baking!

How do clients describe you?

I hope helpful, passionate, professional and friendly


How do you unwind?

Exercise and catching up with friends.

What changes have occurred in the cake industry since you launched?

Definitely lots more amateur bakers learning the craft.

What trends have you seen this year / are working on next year?

Trend wise – tall tiers and tiers with square edges are now much more common place. There is just a lot more variety in terms of style and finish from very wacky to still very traditional.

What is your vice?

I am still, after all these years partial to any of our cake or dessert table items, Valrhona chocolate and the odd glass of Champagne!

What is the Step by Step course?

This course is all about how to plan a wedding once you’ve been hired as a wedding planner (or indeed venue co-ordinator) what do you do next? How do you manage their budget? How would you source a venue or supplier and how would you negotiate with them? What elements are important when researching into suppliers and what questions do you need to ask? We go through the most popular ceremony types in the UK and explain the legalities and running order for each type. We then take you through the day itself guiding you through the ceremony, drink reception, wedding breakfast and evening reception.
