A Relaxed Rustic Country Tea

28 October, 2013

A Relaxed Rustic Country Tea is one of three wedding inspiration shoots organised by member Val at Benessamy Weddings & Events to showcase the versatility of Bawdon Lodge Farm both as a country farm wedding venue and as a marquee wedding venue. The inspiration for this theme was the natural rustic charm of afternoon tea on an English country farm.

Everything from the bleached pine sweet heart table informally dressed with burlap runners, gorgeous mismatched china and informal linen to the ‘vintage meets rustic’ inspired Polka Dots & Pinstripes stationery. Afternoon tea would not be complete of course without delicious scones and cakes for all to enjoy!

Rustic Tea

The hay store ‘theatre’ provided a small “off centre” stage for the couple to relax and enjoy a little time to themselves before a refreshing glass of homemade lemonade from the outdoor drinks station.

Comments from some of our fabulous team….

“Inspired by Vintage Afternoon Tea we wanted to create a rustic look with simple burlap table runners, mismatched china, and soft hues of blue and pinks. Capturing all of the charm of an English Afternoon Tea, this shoot is relaxed, subtle and oh so pretty” - Darby & Joan Vintage

“We used a combination of Peonies simply complimented with wheat to give the soft romantic blooms a rustic edge. Hydrangeas also featured heavily which we love for their informal, soft look. Clouds of Gypsophila were also used, along with scented lavender.” - Tineke Floral Design

“With a distressed, mottled and stripey background, we chose our Polka Dots & Pinstripes range of wedding stationery to complement the rustic style of the shoot. This typographically-led design uses various fonts in block sections to highlight key information about the day. The stationery suite is made up of matching materials such as natural kraft envelopes and uncoated papers, bound with rustic and stripey twines.” – Paper Knots

“We were keen to feature wedding dress designer Sassi Holford at Bawdon Lodge Farm photo as we felt it was the perfect venue to showcase the Best of British. All of Sassi’s gowns are designed and handmade in her studios in Taunton, Somerset by her very talented team. As well as this we felt that her gowns exuded the classic country style with a contemporary edge that we were aiming for. We also chose British headdress designer Polly Edwards as her stunning creations complement Sassi’s gowns perfectly. We decided on lace as it’s vintage but contemporary at the same time – a really big story for next year’s collections too. ‘Ingrid’ by British Designer Sassi Holford, is a dreamily romantic gown in all-over lace that suits the venue’s relaxed rustic feel. The tiny shrugette with its pretty satin bow gives a stunning back view for the ceremony but can be detached later to reveal a whole new strapless look for the evening. ‘Ingrid’ speaks for itself, so we styled it very simply with just a few flowers in the bride’s hair.

The more formal ‘Ellie’ also by Sassi Holford. has a gorgeous lace bodice and a waist sash detail with a touch of sparkle. The full skirt of silk organza is soft and romantic but glamorous enough to make any bride feel special. We prettied it up still further with the amazing ‘Ellie’ lace shrug and Polly Edwards ‘Oasis’ headdress and the result was a perfect combination for any country wedding” - Giling & White Bridal

” We opted for large heated rollers to give a softer, relaxed texture. Body and movement without too much structure. Then gently pinned up following the hairs natural shape. Lifted gently from the face to add a little height but allowed to cascade at the sides. So that as the day wears on, it just relaxes a little rather than totally collapsing - and with the simple addition of the flower it instantly adds a country chic style. The Inspiration being relaxed and carefree with no maintenance or worry throughout the day. Yet able to stand a hot summers day or any other elements the English weather might bring!” - Alison Jenner and Cristina Lazarotto

UKAWP Course Notes red

Step by Step

This course literally teaches you how to plan a wedding from the moment you have been hired. We go through how to create a client budget and work out what % of the budget should go on certain areas. We advise how to create payment plans for clients and what to do if you have a client bank account. We show you examples of the different ceremonies in the UK and how etiquette plays a part in today’s weddings, albeit in a modern way. Then its time to discuss suppliers from how to find them to what questions to ask. The final part of the weekend takes you through the day from the ceremony up until the evening entertainment.

Business Practicalities

This course is aimed at those wishing to start their own business. Primarily your research and marketing before moving onto the type of services you wish to offer and how to decide what to charge. We take you through the importance of branding for a small business and how you need to think about this in everything you do. One element that is always popular is the mock consultations we undertake with the students, this gives students the chance to understand how important it is to ask the right questions in a consultation. And finally we go through how to produce your proposal.

UKAWP Mix & Mingle evening, 2 October 2013

24 October, 2013

Continuing our write up on the mix and mingle events, we are delighted to give you a quick overview of the London cruise which took place on the 2nd October. Thank you to UKAWP members Liz of Elizabeth Jane Events and Dominique and Angelique from Stylish Events who organised the event for us. I shall leave Liz to tell you about the evening.

Following 2012’s hugely successful Mix & Mingle evening, we knew there was a tremendous challenge ahead to ensure this year’s Mix & Mingle evening was as good, if not even better.

We decided upon a cruise on the Thames to make the most of the last few days of the summery weather, whilst also providing something a little different and we have the London Eye Barracuda to thank for hosting and sponsoring our evening. The London Eye Barracuda took us on a two hour cruise along the Thames and also provided guests with plenty of fine wines throughout the evening.

LondonEye BarracudaOn boarding the boat guests were served a selection of fabulously potent cocktails prepared by On The Rocks – a mobile bar hire business that specialises in stylish cocktail bars, cocktail bartenders and hospitality staff for all types of events. Mojitos and Cosmopolitans were free flowing all evening and enjoyed by everyone and some literally went free flowing out the glasses when the boat had to ride another boat’s bow wave.

To accompany the fine wines and stylish cocktails, exquisite canapés by Food by Dish were served. Guests tucked into sumptuous mini lobster burgers, seared tuna with a sashimi dip and wild mushroom palmiers. Food by Dish is one of London’s leading contemporary caterers with over 25 years of experience in the catering field.

Mix and Mingle CanapesFabulous florist, Ruari McCulloch, from Pinstripes & Peonies provided some beautiful looking bridal bouquets with a wonderful aroma to decorate the mirrored tables. Ruari offers stunning floral designs and is well known for his ‘can do’ attitude and outstanding customer service.

Mix and Mingle Flowers

Sternberg Clarke, one of the UK’s leading suppliers of entertainment in the corporate and wedding industry, kindly provided us with some great entertainment, which lightened the atmosphere – Georgia Mason & Michael Baker from Georgia and The Fables sang for us throughout the evening and Femi, a caricaturist, drew some amusing portraits of some guests.

Mix and Mingle EntertainmentAngelique from Stylish Events has her own nail business, I Love Nails, and kindly provided guests with some creative and fun nail art designs throughout the evening. I was disappointed that none of the male guests participated.

I love nailsGuests were treated to some sweet delights by Velvet Couture who provided a candy station and popcorn for the evening. As you can imagine this went down incredibly well!

Throughout the evening raffle tickets were sold to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. Prizes were generously donated by Sandals, the luxury Caribbean all inclusive vacation company. Two lucky planners including Angelique Franklin from Stylish Events won places on a Sandals Dedicated Wedding Familiarisation Trip to the Caribbean in 2014 and four other planners won places on the Chairman of Sandal’s luxury yacht ‘Lady Sandals’ for a wedding showcase event in Brighton, where dinner and drinks would be provided, along with a tour of the yacht.

The directors of the UKAWP, Bernadette Chapman and Sandy Moretta, gave a general update on the UKAWP and also proudly awarded Kelly Chandler, UKAWP supreme member, with an outstanding contribution award for her years of dedication in her role as a director for the UKAWP 2006- January 2013.

Finally, our resident photographer for the evening was Jessica Young from JKB Young, who recently arrived in London from Manhatten and captured the evening with some amazing photographs. JKB Young specialises in editorial and reportage wedding photography.

To conclude the evening guests were given a stylish black goody box from Box De Lux, a bespoke and luxury gifting business who also provided nail varnish, mini perfumes amongst other things. Other goodies included were luxury beauty products from Beau Choix, sugared shortbread from The Abigail Bloom Cake Company, a luxury London wedding cake company, a stainless steel butterfly wine glass charm by Weddings by Creativetch, a luxury stainless steel wedding stationery business, a Wedding Save The Dates magnet and a tasty cupcake from The Velvet Couture Bakery.

Mix and Mingle goody bag

The evening was immensely enjoyable and I thoroughly enjoyed catching up with fellow planners. I would like to say a final big thank you to everyone who was involved in providing complimentary goods and / or services to help make the evening a huge success – your generosity and kindness was really appreciated.

Lady Sandals Yacht

21 October, 2013

On the 17th October some of our members were lucky enough to have an invitation to a dinner reception on board the fabulous Lady Sandals Yacht when it was moored in Brighton Marina yesterday. The evening was held to showcase their Sandals ‘WeddingMoons’ and they hosted other Wedding Planners and guests from the travel industry. Two of our members to attend were Sue and Clive from Eleganza Weddings who have kindly given us a short insight into the yacht and the evening itself.

This beautiful yacht is owned by the Chairman of Sandals/Beach Resorts, Gordon Butch Stewart, is currently on a UK tour before going on a short visit to Spain and then back to the Caribbean. The image and the brand of Sandals offering luxury and style to all their customers was wonderfully reflected by the yacht and everything about it.

We were treated to delicious food and drinks throughout the evening and we were able to hear about the Sandals exciting new developments to their wedding services for couples choosing to marry in one of their resorts. It was also good to have an overview of their Wedding Moons options.

Interestingly, they are now offering customised destination weddings so couples can get involved with the style and all the finishing touches of their wedding day. Well worth looking at further to see more of the details whether for any couples wishing to marry in the Caribbean or take their Honeymoon there.
