Member Focus – Better Together Weddings

Today we would like to introduce you to one of our newer members, Debbie Rainford of Better Together Weddings.

How did it all start?

Rather randomly I suppose. In a former life I was a solicitor for 8 years and although I didn’t hate the job it never really set my world on fire.  Lets just say I didn’t jump out of bed on a Monday morning unable to contain the excitement of heading in to the office.  This coupled with the fact that I have always known I wanted to run my own business was the starting point.

Whist practising as a Solicitor I was elected to become President of JCI Manchester, a voluntary personl development organisation for individuals in business aged between 18 – 39.  In short, the key thing that I did was organise events and I quickly realised that I got a huge kick out of doing so.  It was one day as I was pushing the paying clients’ work aside to deal with the voluntary work that I realised that the time had come to reassess the situation.

As an organised (some might say anal) person with a passion for lists (only kidding) I loved everything about organising events, from the smaller regular weekly events to the bigger lavish annual events for national and international vistors.  I really did get a huge kick out of the finished article.

Weddings came next.  I organised five of my friends weddings within two years (for free of course) and quickly discovered that it was a passion.  I still enjoy the corporate events but weddings are my true love!

Do you have a favourite venue?

I have phases but at the moment I am in love with Capesthorn Hall.  The elegace and opulance of the great hall set amongts the tranquil haven of wildlife, parkland and formal gardens, the happy couple really can feel like royalty for the day!

How would clients describe you?

Hopefully; friendly, approachable, professional and organsied but I suppose you would have to ask them!

Wedding planner/s you admire?

Everyone that is a member of UKAWP since they have the right attitude and ethos and bring a huge amount of credibitlity to the profession.

How do you unwind?

At the moment I take my 16 week old puppy for long walks and ball throwing sessions in the local countryside.  There is nothing like fresh air and open space to clear the mind.  I won’t lie though a nice glass of Argentinian Malbec also does the trick!

What themes are you working on for 2013/14?

Some very different extremes.  Bold bright colours with patterened linen and a party feel through to all white intimate lacey elegance.

I am just waiting for the couple that share my desire for mint green.

What trends are you seeing?

More intimate affairs where the couple can really focus on the elements of the day that are important to them.  That along with lace and backless dresses.  Beautiful!

What is your signature dish?

I’m not sure that I have one.  Everything that I have done so far has been incredibly different and I must say I really like it that way.

Whose celebrity wedding (dead or alive) would you love to design?

Well I always say aim high so since I have missed the boat with Kate and Wills I shall have to say Harry and …….???  In all seriousness I absolutely loved every moment of the royal wedding so having the chance to create something to top it would be amazing.

Is the job as glamorous as you thought?

I’m not sure I ever thought it would be glamorous.  Its hard work, stressful, time consuming and I love it!

What is your vice?

Do Cadburys cream eggs count as a vice?  I think a more apt description would be an addiction!
